Program Description: Did You Know? It is your responsibility to keep up with all Nursing Rule changes. Did you know the Board of Nursing approved changed continuing competence rules Dec. 2018? All Texas nurses must obtain 2 contact hours continuing education on jurisprudence and ethics that must include education on board rules, practice act, position statements and professional boundaries. This program fulfills the requirements of the Texas Board of Nursing in an interactive format. Get reacquainted with the Texas Nursing Practice Act, Texas BON Rules and Position Statements. Every nurse is charged with knowing the Texas BON rules that apply to nursing practice. Rachel takes the rules everyone needs to know and applies those rules to your practice in home care. Ethical principles and professional boundaries will also be covered.

About the Presenter:
Rachel Hammon
received her Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Texas in Austin. She has 23 years of experience in nursing with 19 years’ experience in the home health industry. During her employment with a home health agency, she served in many roles, which gave her a diverse knowledge of the industry. At the Texas Association for Home Care and Hospice Rachel assisted member agencies with compliance with state and federal laws, served as a liaison with state and federal government officials and on the Nurse Practice Advisory Committee for the Board of Nurse Examiners. As the Executive Director, Rachel is responsible for implementing the mission of the association which is to advocate for ethical practices, quality, and economic viability of licensed providers of home and community support services in Texas. As part of that advocacy she routinely works with legislators and state agency staff on legislation and policy that affects the home care industry.

About the Presenter:
Amanda J. Ellis
advises licensed providers on operational and regulatory matters related to their practices, including licensing and health care privacy law compliance. She has represented various entities and individuals at the State Office of Administrative Hearings and before other agencies, including the Texas Medical Board, Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners, and the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Ms. Ellis is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Austin Bar Association, the Texas Pharmacy Association and the Texas Counseling Association. She frequently speaks before professional organizations, state agencies and industry groups regarding administrative and health law issues, including professional health care licensing and enforcement defense and federal and state privacy law compliance.

Ms. Ellis currently serves on the Board of the Administrative Law Section and is a member of the Health Law Section of the Austin Bar Association. In May 2013, she was appointed to the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners. Ms. Ellis is Board Certified in Administrative Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and serves on the Administrative Law Exam Commission.
