Are you a home health agency looking to get into hospice and don’t know where to start? This program provides focus on the operational and regulatory similarities and differences between home health and hospice.

Program Goal: To educate the viewer on the operational and regulatory similarities and differences between home health and hospice.

About the Presenters: Troy Brooks, JD is a former Assistant General Counsel for the Texas Department of Human Services, and has worked extensively with the Home and Community Support Services Agencies Program. Troy now represents home health agencies across Texas in Medicare and Medicaid disputes with government agencies and their contractors. He also represents home health agencies in negotiating and responding to government fraud investigations. Troy runs his own law firm, Troy Brooks & Associates in Houston, Texas.

Marie Berliner, JD has been counseling healthcare providers, including home health agencies, hospices, physicians and hospitals, in all aspects of administrative and regulatory compliance, since 1988. Her practice focuses on Medicare reimbursement, fraud and abuse, physician self-referrals (“Stark law”), licensure and certification, and other administrative and regulatory healthcare matters. During law school, Ms. Berliner was a legal fellow in the Office of U.S. Senator George J. Mitchell (then Chairman of the Senate Finance Health Subcommittee), and was a law clerk with the American Health Care Association. She has also been a regular speaker (2004-2008) on Medicare issues the TAHC&H, The Texas and New Mexico Hospice Organization, and the University of Texas’ Annual Health Law Conference, and has presented numerous administrator training seminars to home health and hospice providers on select federal and state laws.
