About the Presenters:
Mary Helen Tieken, RN, BSN,
has nearly 30 years’ experience in home health and hospice as an administrator and field nurse. When she started in home health, there were only 7 pages of rules for home health agencies and agencies were designated Class A and Class B, and you could add on hospice as an additional service if you wanted. Things have really changed in all these years. She is a 1979 graduate of the University Of Texas School Of Nursing, San Antonio. She worked as the head nurse on the oncology/urology floors at Santa Rosa Hospital, San Antonio for 5 years before beginning her career in home health. She opened a hospital-based agency in Floresville where she lives, then worked for a large proprietary agency for a year before deciding it was time to start her own agency. In 1990, she and her husband started Nurses In Touch, Inc., with little to no money, a crew of dedicated staff, and strong belief that home care was the most cost-effective answer to taking care of patients. She has served as the chair of many TAHCH committees, has served on the Board of Directors, and as its President from 2008-2010. She also currently serves on the Medical Care Advisory Committee, is active in her local government’s politics and economic development board, and has three beautiful grandchildren.

Dana Madison, RN, BSN, MBA, is the Administrator / Owner of Calvert Home Health Care, Ltd in Lubbock. Dana’s health care experience includes working as an RN for 30 years, a hospital administrator for 2 years, a Practice Manager in a physician’s office for 8 years and a home health administrator and owner for 19 years. Dana received her BSN from Texas Women’s University in Dallas, and an MBA in Health Care Administration from the University of Dallas. Dana served as the President of the Texas Association for Home Care & Hospice from 2010 – 2012.
