Program Description: Pain management continues to be problematic for a variety of reasons. Too often patients are told: It’s too early. You shouldn’t be having that much pain. I am afraid you will become addicted. These responses are never appropriate. In this program you can learn how to properly assess pain, address pain through appropriate interventions, and look at outcomes. Presentation Date: 08.13.2015

Program Objectives: Upon completion of this program, the viewer will be able to:

  • Differentiate between categories and classifications of pain
  • Describe ongoing assessment of pain, the implementation of appropriate interventions, and the measurement of outcomes
  • Discuss the pharmacologic treatment of pain

About the Presenter:
Robert Parker
is the Corporate Director for Palliative Care at Interim Healthcare for Texas and New Mexico. He has 30-years of experience in home health, hospice and palliative care. Bob is currently pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he also holds an adjunct faculty position. He is a Committee Member and current Vice-chair of the Professional Education Committee for the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. Additionally, he serves on the newly formed Community-based Palliative Care taskforce for the Center to Advance Palliative Care.
