Program Description: Wound care continues to evolve rapidly as we increase our knowledge. Staying ahead of current trends and changes in terminology is essential for today's homecare nurse. This program presents the recently announced changes in the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP) Pressure Injury Staging System and its implications for homecare nurses. The presenter also addresses a variety of other skin injuries such as Medical Adhesive Related Skin Injury (MARSI), Moisture Associated Skin Damage (MASD), and the International Skin Tear Advisory Panel (ISTAP) Skin Tear Classification System. Also presented is a new web-based algorithm for managing patients with venous ulcers. Presentation Date: 08.11.2016

Learning Outcome: Upon completion of this program, the viewer will be able to:

  • Gain an understanding of the new NPUAP Pressure Injury Staging system and the implications for Home Care and Hospice nurses.

About the Presenter:
Clay Collins
MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, CWOCN, CFCN, CWS. FACCWS. Clay received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX and his Masters of Science in Nursing from Walden University. He is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). He graduated from the Emory University WOCN Education Program in Atlanta, Ga. and is board certified in Wound, Ostomy, Continence and Foot Care nursing through the WOCN Certification Board (WOCNCB). Clay is a Certified Wound Specialist through the American Academy of Wound Management and is a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Wound Specialists. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the WOCNCB and is the board liaison to the foot care exam committee.

Clay is a member of the Wound Ostomy Continence Nurses Society, the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care, and Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society. He received the 2015 Educator of the Year award from the South Central Region Wound Ostomy Continence Nurses Society. Clay has been a registered nurse for 20 years and has extensive experience in the homecare industry serving as Wound Program Director, Director of Clinical Services and Administrator for large home health agencies.
