HCSSA Topic(s) Addressed:

  • §97.259[d][4]agency responsibilities
  • §97.260[a][3]basic principles of management in a licensed health-related setting

Faculty: Fontaine, Miranda

Program Description: Many managers achieve management positions because of their excellent work skills. However new managers often don’t realize that the new role requires a transition from doing the work to achieving goals through a team of people. Managers must have a good understanding of the organization to maintain existing systems and processes, to set achievable goals, and build positive working relationships with staff.

In this program you will learn a holistic approach to management: knowing yourself, knowing your organization, and knowing your employees. You wil be able to identify your unique skills and how these skills translate into the management role, pinpoint areas of needed growth, discover unique ways to understand and communicate with employees so staff can "manage" themselves, and identify specific strategies to hardwire the processes needed to keep the team running smoothly. Presentation Date: 08.13.2015

Program Objectives: Upon completion of this program, the viewer will be able to:

  • Identify her/his role as a leader within the team and as a leader individually with each team member
  • Describe a framework for team education
  • Discuss methods of interfaces and coordination between administration and the team
