Program Description: How does the hospice philosophy and culture compare to other aspects of healthcare? This program provides viewers an overview of hospice services, philosophy, and culture in comparison to other healthcare entities and to discuss regulatory standards based on patient location and level of care. A discussion of Hospice Quality Reporting is also included along with links to CMS presentations on the Hospice reporting initiative.

Program Objectives: Upon completion of this program, the viewer will be able to:

  • Identify and define philosophical differences between hospice and other healthcare entities.
  • Develop understanding of general admission criteria and local coverage determinations.
  • Identify the four levels of hospice care and discuss regulatory differences.

About the Presenter: Barbara Davidson, RN has served for the last 32 years in a variety of roles and healthcare arenas as a registered nurse. She has functioned in various clinical and nursing administrative roles in hospitals, hospices and academic settings. While DON/ Clinical Administrator for Hospice in the Pines in Lufkin, Texas, Barbara obtained AAHCA accreditation with commendation for both the inpatient and home care hospice, opened an alternate delivery site in their southern-most counties, and maintained regulatory compliance. The last two years she has functioned as a consultant for Stebbins Five, owners of 10 LTC facilities, a homecare, and a hospice. In this role, she serves as liaison to the LTC facilities and their hospice providers to improve coordination of care and educate both hospice and long term care staff to the benefits of partnering for patient and family care.
