Program Description: Healthcare compliance programs have been around for over 10 years. They will soon be mandatory in home care and hospice. How can an agency implement a program that effectively reduces the risks of fraud and abuse? This program discusses the basic requirements of a compliance program based on OIG guidelines. It also reviews the OIG Workplan topics of identified fraud risks and considers program steps to help avoid them.

Program Objectives: Upon completion of this program, the viewer will be able to:

  • Discuss Corporate Compliance Program Guidelines
  • Describe the Office of Inspector General (OIG) fraud and abuse risks
  • Analyze the top risk factors in home care
  • Discuss strategies to avoid fraud and abuse violations

About the Presenter: Charlotte Patterson is the Chief Corporate Compliance Officer with Integra Care Holdings. IntegraCare provides home care, hospice, and waiver services, and accepts payment from Medicare, Medicaid and private payors. It has over 18 provider number and 38 + offices nationwide. Charlotte is responsible for the creation and implementation of the corporate compliance program consistent with the OIG guidelines; monitoring of confidential hotline; and investigation of potential fraud and abuse. She also directs ongoing training and education regarding OIG Hotspots, state and federal compliance issues, clinical and billing activities, emergency preparedness, HIPPA and privacy issues. Charlotte earned her Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Florida and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas Austin.
